When people think of AV companies, they often picture speakers, microphones and lighting rigs. But the best AV providers do far more than supply equipment—they become an extension of the event team, combining technical expertise, planning and problem-solving to deliver seamless experiences for audiences, presenters and performers.

Here are five trends shaping today’s live events—and why choosing the right AV partner matters more than ever.

1. Hybrid Events Are Here to Stay

Many conferences, product launches and public events now need to engage audiences both in the room and online. This requires far more than pointing a camera at a stage.

A professional AV team designs a broadcast-quality production, managing multiple camera angles, presentation content, audio mixing, remote contributors, streaming platforms and contingency plans to ensure everyone enjoys the same experience, wherever they are.

2. Simplicity Creates Greater Impact

The most memorable events aren’t always the biggest—they’re the most thoughtfully produced.

Modern audiences expect clean visuals, clear sound and lighting that enhances the message rather than distracts from it. Experienced production teams know how to use technology creatively and efficiently, delivering polished results without unnecessary complexity or cost.

3. Reliability Is the Real Value

The latest equipment is important, but it’s only one part of the equation.

Successful events depend on detailed planning, technical rehearsals, experienced operators and rapid problem-solving when conditions inevitably change. Whether it’s adapting to a last-minute speaker, overcoming venue limitations or managing unexpected technical issues, a skilled AV provider keeps the event running while the audience never notices.

4. Accessibility Is Becoming Standard

Events are increasingly expected to be accessible to every attendee.

Professional AV teams now regularly integrate live captioning, hearing assistance systems, sign language interpretation, presentation support and streamed content into event workflows. Building accessibility into the production from the outset creates a better experience for all participants—not just those with specific requirements.

5. Sustainability Starts Behind the Scenes

Clients are placing greater emphasis on reducing the environmental impact of events.

Leading AV providers support these goals through energy-efficient LED lighting, careful equipment planning, reduced transport movements, reusable infrastructure and responsible waste management. Sustainable production isn’t just about using greener technology—it’s about designing smarter events that minimise unnecessary resources.

Beyond Equipment

The biggest shift in live events isn’t technological—it’s strategic.

Today’s AV providers are production partners. They help clients plan events, assess risks, coordinate suppliers, manage technical rehearsals, support presenters, solve problems under pressure and ensure every element works together seamlessly.

At Atlantic Audio, we believe great production is rarely noticed—and that’s exactly the point. When the technology simply works, presenters feel confident, audiences stay engaged and organisers can focus on delivering their message rather than worrying about what happens behind the scenes.

The best events aren’t defined by the equipment on stage. They’re defined by the expertise behind it.

Overview

The Marine Institute is Ireland’s State agency responsible for marine research, technology development and innovation, providing scientific and technical advice to Government to help inform policy and to support the sustainable development of Ireland’s marine resource. Atlantic Audio has collaborated frequently with the Marine Institute for their high-profile events. Over the years, our partnership has covered large scale outreach programmes such as Seafest in Galway & Cork (2016-2019) and marine conferences during the same period.

The Ocean Knowledge Conference 2030, held in the Concert Hall RDS, Dublin in November 2024, aimed to bring together global experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss and strategize on ocean sustainability and innovation. Our company was tasked with providing comprehensive audio visual (AV) and event production services to ensure a seamless and impactful experience for all attendees. An exhibition and networking space was located in the adjoining Hall 3 and we were asked to provide ambient lighting and a draping solution to improve the look and ambiance of this space for conference goers and exhibitors.

Objectives

The primary objectives for our service provision were:

Deliver state-of-the-art AV solutions to enhance presentations and discussions.

Ensure seamless recording for archive and media purposes

Provide draping and an architectural lighting solution for the associated exhibition and networking area

Create an immersive and engaging environment that reflects the conference’s theme of ocean sustainability.

Provide on-site technical support to handle any issues promptly.

Pre-Event Planning

Client Consultation:

We initiated the project with a series of consultations with the conference organizers to understand their vision, requirements, and expectations. Detailed discussions helped us identify key aspects such as the number of attendees, the layout of the venue, and the technological needs.

Site Survey:

A thorough site survey of the RDS in Dublin was conducted to assess logistical aspects, including power supply, acoustics, and lighting conditions. Further online meetings were held with venue event managers and the client in the planning period. This helped us in planning the equipment setup and identifying potential challenges.

Customized Solution Design:

Based on the client’s requirements and our site survey, we designed a customized AV solution. This included:

High-definition 6.5m x 3.5m LED video wall and large 75” screens for clear visual presentations and IMAG (image magnification) of panellists and keynote speakers

Use of Sli.do to increase audience engagement.

Advanced sound systems and digital wireless systems for crisp audio quality.

Dynamic lighting setups to enhance the stage look and ambiance for audience and camera.

A robust camera infrastructure to ensure an engaging filmed recording.

Execution

Setup and Testing:

Our team arrived at the venue the day prior to the event for setup and testing. We ensured all equipment was installed correctly and conducted multiple test runs to guarantee everything was functioning perfectly.

Event Day Operations:

Throughout the conference, our technicians were on-site to manage the AV systems. Key highlights included:

Production manager/Show caller available at all times to liaise with client and technical crew to manage event schedule and speaker preparation.

Supply of handheld radios to ensure effective communication between conference organisers and technical crew.

Smooth transitions between presentations and video with synchronized visuals and audio.

Real-time technical support for speakers and panellists.

Dedicated camera operator to ensure flawless IMAG to screens and reliable recording

Special Features:

Interactive Panels: We integrated interactive panel discussions with real-time audience engagement through live polls and Q&A sessions.

Sustainable Delivery of Services:

Sustainable logistics planning ensured we were able to minimise equipment delivery, using a single truck to deliver all equipment.

All lighting and video displays were LED-based minimising energy consumption. Use of Class D amplifiers minimised energy consumption of audio system.

Rechargeable batteries were used for all wireless transmission, eliminating waste.

Local personnel were used for the most part, minimising local hotel usage.

Post-Event Services

Recording and Archiving:

All sessions were recorded and edited to produce high-quality videos for archival purposes and future reference. These were made available to the conference organizers within a week.

Feedback Collection:

We conducted a post-event survey to gather feedback from the organizers and attendees. This feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the professionalism and technical excellence of our services.

Outcomes

– The Ocean Knowledge Conference 2030 was hailed as a success, with participants praising the high-quality AV setup and smooth execution.

– The immersive environment fostered by our AV solutions enhanced attendee engagement and reinforced the conference’s theme of ocean sustainability.

Conclusion

Our provision of audio visual and event production services played a pivotal role in the success of the Ocean Knowledge Conference 2030. This case study exemplifies our commitment to delivering top-tier event solutions, ensuring a memorable and impactful experience for all stakeholders.

The Atlantic Audio Ltd of June 2021 is very different to the Atlantic Audio Ltd of March 12 2020 when the live events industry in Ireland was effectively shuttered for what was then “next two weeks” and is now going on almost 500 days.

We spent the initial lockdown of 2020 developing our live-streaming services in conjunction with Brandt Studios who had provided our streaming services heretofore. We had a bit of luck along the way. In conjunction with Brandt Studios, we delivered a ‘digital festival’ for the Cuirt International Festival of Literature which lead to other work in the digital space for other festivals moving to online. We had a 1gb fibre connection already and were in a healthy financial position on the back of an unusually very busy January and February with the Galway 2020 European City of Culture project.

Investment

In early summer 2020, we developed a purpose-built acoustically treated studio space on the back of this and made some technological improvements in terms of computer hardware. Since then we haven’t really had to look back. There has been some investment in more computing and network capacity as well as camera equipment.

Changes

We’ve lost some freelancers along the way to other industries and jobs, most of whom won’t come back full-time to events. Others have re-skilled and look after some of the streaming and webinar technical support services. We’ve engaged freelance video editors, captioners and camera-operators.

You’ll be reading this on our new website, built for us by Digitaledge recently. This process has led to a re-think of how I look at the business. Atlantic Audio Ltd pre-2020 was very much an “audio-first” company with a narrow focus on audio for live corporate and performing arts events.

“Audio-first” Communications

The Atlantic Audio Ltd of 2021 is now striving to be a more complete “communications” company. If all communication begins with sound, then an “audio-first” focus on communication makes sense. I heard someone say that, in broadcast, you can ignore the picture but not the sound. Therefore we’ll continue to improve and develop our live-streaming, remote production and podcast services but we’ll also add some elements of location and broadcast sound equipment to the rental stock over the next few months. We’ve found some neat wearable and concealer solutions for our wireless lavs. I’m excited to see what the new M1 chip in the Apple Mac can do for the editing workflow and I’ll be integrating DANTE into the remote production facility and our mobile streaming set-up.

Best to look forward, I think.
